Review: The Scorpio Races

The Scorpio Races
The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A young girl, Puck, who loves horses more than life itself; her “ordinary” mare, Dove; a strange young man, Sean, who has a way with the horses from the sea … what more could I ask for …

The Scorpio Races weaves a love story and an old legend into a beautiful tale of survival and winning against the odds. Puck is the first female ever to sign up for the big race, and she dares to race on her ordinary mare, Dove, not one of the water horses. And, she must win this race in order to be able to keep the house that her parents left to her and her brothers. Enter Sean, the young man who works magic with the water horses, and his beautiful water horse stallion, Corr. They are the returning champions.

The Water Horses are creatures from the sea, and they are of a very vicious nature, not to be trusted. Will Puck’s Dove even stand a chance racing side by side with these boodthirsty monsters?

As the story unwinds, Sean is enamoured with Puck’s courage and love for horses, and he extends his help to her to prepare Puck for the big race. Will she win … and what is the sacrifice of winning, if she does … for that information, you will have to read the story 🙂

A well recommended read …
